Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is training terrorists to carry out attacks in Russian cities, the TASS news agency reported on February 11, citing a law enforcement source.
HTS is the de facto ruler of the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, where several other al-Qaeda factions are present. These factions are operating right under the eyes of the Turkish military, which maintains thousands of troops in the region.
“Information has been received that the leaders of HTS terrorist alliance had turned their supporters’ focus toward committing crimes in various cities in Russia in places where mass street actions are held,” the source said. “To that end, the leaders of the Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar, Jama’at al-Tawhid wa’al-Jihad, Ajnad al-Kavkaz terror groups and other terrorist organizations that are part of HTS are training the most trusted and experienced gunmen from among recruits of Russian origin or recruited in the countries bordering Russia.”
HTS was designated as a terrorist organization by the Russian Supreme Court in a decision made on May 20 of 2020. The group was behind many attacks on Russian troops in Syria.
Recently, a campaign to whitewash HTS and its leader, Abu Mohamad al-Julani, was launched by the MSM. The bold campaign presents the notorious terrorist group as some sort of a reformed, moderate Islamic movement.
The information revealed by TASS confirms that HTS is still plotting terrorist attacks outside of Syria, contrary to the MSM’s recent claims.
