Late on July 15, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) destroyed communication towers operated by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in the southern countryside of Idlib.

According to opposition sources, the communication towers, which were installed on top of the al-Arbaaine mount, were targeted with several Russian-made Krasnopol 155 mm laser-guided rounds. The towers, which used to provide communication and internet for the southern countryside of Idlib, were completely destroyed.

Al-Arbaaine communication towers were operated by HTS’ administrative wing, the Salvation Government. The terrorist group maintains a monopoly over the communication sector in the Greater Idlib region through the so-called “General Telecommunications Authority”.

A day earlier, the Syrian artillery shelled a number of targets in different parts of Greater Idlib with Krasnopol guided round.

According to RusVesna, the targets included a command center and two military vehicles of HTS. Eight militants of the group, who preparing to carry out terrorist attacks, were killed. Footage of the pinpoint strikes were released.

The SAA’s recent strikes on Greater Idlib were a response to the repeated violations of the ceasefire in the region. In the last few days, the militants violated the ceasefire agreement, that was brokered by Russia and Turkey on March 5, on several occasions. A battle tanks of the SAA was targeted by Turkish-backed militants. An al-Qaeda-affiliated group also fired a heave rocket at a government held town.

The ceasefire in Greater Idlib is barely holding up. The repeated ceasefire violations could soon force the SAA and its allies to resume ground operations in the region.
