In Video: SDF Fighters Hit Turkish Forces Fortifications, Vehicles In Northern Raqqa With Guided Missiles
On July 4, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that its fighters had carried out a series of operations against Turkish forces in northeastern Syria.
A video of the operations shows seven strikes with anti-tank guided missiles on fortifications and vehicles of Turkish forces near town of Tell Abyad in the northern countryside of Raqqa.
According to the SDF, eight militants were killed in the operations, which also saw the destruction of two trenches, two thermal surveillance cameras, two military vehicles and a battle tank.
The SDF said that the operations were a response to a series of attacks carried out by Turkish forces in the northern Raqqa countryside between June 21 and July 1. Most of the attacks targeted the town of Ain Issa and villages located on the M4 highway.
The Turkish military and its proxies occupied a long strip of land between Tell Abyad in northern Raqqa and Ain Issa in northern al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria following a heated battle with the SDF in October of 2019. Since then the region has been unstable.
Recently, the SDF resumed offensive operations against Turkish forces in an attempt to stop daily their attacks on its territory. Six Turkish-backed militants were killed or wounded in a recent attack by the group in the northern Aleppo countryside.
