Hostile Drone Intercepted Over Saudi Arabia Following Houthi Strike On Ma’rib (Video)

Late on June 10, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had intercepted a drone over Saudi Arabia’s southern region.

In a statement, the coalition claimed that the drone was on its way to attack the city of Khamis Mushait in the province of ‘Asir.

Such drones are usually intercepted by Saudi F-15 fighter jets. However, in this case the drone was shot down by an air-defense system, likely one of the MIM-104 Patriot systems deployed in the Kingdom’s southern region.

The drone was most likely launched from Yemen by the Houthis (Ansar Allah). The Yemeni group is yet to confirm this, however.

A few minutes prior to the drone attack, the Houthis launched four ballistic missiles and a suicide drone at the central Yemeni city of Ma’rib. Souces in the Yemeni group claimed the target was gatherings of the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies.

The Houthi’s large-scale strike led to much destruction in Ma’rib. At least eight people were killed and 27 others were wounded.

The attacks on Ma’rib and Khamis Mushait demonstrate the Houthis capabilities to launch attacks on several fronts simultaneously. The Yemeni group has proven on several occasions that it can easily overwhelm the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies.
