ISWNews Analysis Group: The Southern Transitional Council of Yemen (STC) called for the prevention of new tensions and the withdrawal of Mansour Hadi forces from the provinces of Shabwah and Hadhramaut.
According to Ahmad Saeed bin Brick, head of National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council, if Mansour Hadi forces do not withdraw from Shabwah and Hadhramaut provinces, the southerners will not partecipiate on any new issues raised at the recent Riyadh 3 talks.
He also said that the STC negotiating team had asked Saudi Arabia to return the government delegation to Aden, as well as to implement the remaining provisions of the previous agreement, such as “meeting the financial needs” and “medical services” and etc. for the southern forces.
It is worth mentioning that the first version of the agreement between the southerners and Mansour Hadi’s supporters took place in 2019 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which is why it became known as the “Riyadh Agreement”.
But differences between the two sides persisted, and after months of armed conflict between the two factions, the UAE provided special support to the southerners, which led to the defeat of Mansour Hadi’s forces in Aden and other southern parts of Yemen. Following this defeat, Mansour Hadi resigned government agreed to another agreement in 2020, which became known as the ‘Riyadh Agreement 2’, and one of the results was the formation of a joint government between the two currents. But the southerners have again exceeded their demands in line with the plan to divide Yemen into northern and southern parts.
