On May 22, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) released footage showing the wreckage of a Saudi-led coalition combat drone that was recently shot down by their air-defense force.

The drone, a Chinese-made CAIG Wing Loong II, was shot down on May 20 along the Yemeni-Saudi border with a new ground-to-air missile that is yet to be unveiled.

The Wing Loong II has an endurance of 32 hours and an operational range of up to 4,000 km. The drone shot down by the Houthis was armed with a number of LJ-7 guided air-to-ground missiles.

This type of combat drones is known to be in service with both the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) and the United Arab Emirates Air Force.

The Houthis shot down a total of four Wing Loong I and II over Yemen in the last five years. All were reportedly being operated by the RSAF.

This was the sixth drone to be shot down by the Houthis this year. The Yemeni group air-defense capabilities have begun to pose a real threat to the aerial operations of the Saudi-led coalition.
