On the evening of April 4th, inmates rioted at the City Justice Center in St. Louis, Missouri, US.

The prisoners broke windows, set a fire and threw debris to the ground, in a prison that has had several such incidents in recent months.

Jacob Long, spokesperson for Mayor Lyda Krewson’s office said “two violent and dangerous disturbances” originated from two units on the third floor beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Inmates were seen tossing objects out of broken windows and setting a fire. Firefighters used a hose to douse the flames.

One hour and a half after the rioting began, police came and put an end to it.

Then approximately 30 minutes later, nmates broke windows on the other side of the jail and began throwing objects again. Thirty minutes later, the inmates had disappeared again and officers could be seen inside.

Some inmates were heard yelling demands for court dates. Proceedings have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

An uprising at the jail on February 6th involved over 100 inmates and sent one corrections officer to the hospital. Officials said detainees were upset about conditions inside the jail and had concerns about COVID-19.

Nobody escaped during the chaos, though the inmates did drop a makeshift rope from the third floor to a second-story landing, according to social media footage.
